It is for exactly this reason that so much fitness equipment quickly ends up as rusty, dusty junk in the attic or garage.

Tragically, this can also be the end of the line for many peoples efforts at getting fit, some of whom may be so discouraged they will wait many months or years before trying again, if at all. Even more remarkable, many of these same people will jump back on the fitness bandwagon by purchasing an all new super-system or mega-machine. And so, many people become trapped in a cycle of failure, forever taking one step forwards ? and two steps back.

To avoid this trap, learn to be critical of the media hype and build realistic expectations.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, few things are as romantic as a day out of town. Here are our suggestions for a day in Boston that’s cheap but not chintzy.

Ice castles

Yeah, we know the ice over at White Park is finally safe, but there’s something amazing about skimming around the Frog Pond on the Common surrounded by tall buildings and the sounds of city traffic. For extra romance, go after sunset. Admission is free for kids under 14 and $4 for everyone else, skate rentals are $8 ($5 for kids) and lockers are $1. The Common is at the Park Street T station, on the Red and Green lines. For more information, call (617) 635-2120 or visit bostoncommonfrogpond.org.

Most of the

Most of the time, it works.

Avoid it by forcing him to slow down and calculate right along with him to make sure that you are getting a fair deal and that you both come up with the same numbers. Waste his time!

Price beating scam:

The dealer tells you that they will beat everyone else’s prices or give you $500.

They ask you to get the price from another dealer and they will beat it. The part they didnt tell you is that other dealers will not just hand over their information for you to take to someone else.

This deal is almost impossible to get because most dealers sell different makes and models anyway.

Avoid it by not falling for it at all.

I will not get paid scam:

This is when the dealer tells you that he will not get paid if you do not purchase the options package. This is emotional blackmail.

To avoid this simply tell them that you refuse to buy something you do not want just so that they get paid.

Artificial grass to grow in UAE

Artificial grass to grow in UAE

0 Comments | Al Bawaba, Jul 11, 2010

Government, businesses and homeowners seeking ways of reducing soaring water bills as well as curbing their carbon emissions have found that major savings can made by landscaping their gardens and common areas with artificial grass.

According to the United Nations, the GCC countries are among the world’s highest per capita water users with UAE residents topping the table by consuming an average of 550 litres a day each, 80% of which is produced by expensive desalination. Between them, Abu Dhabi and Dubai will be investing AED120 billion over the next five years in power plants, desalination units and sewerage systems to meet future demand.

“If a family of four reduced their time in the shower by one minute per day, they would save 11,079 litres of water a year, or filling a bath tub only halfway would save 13,870 litres per annum,” said Markus Oberlin, General Manager of Farnek Avireal, a leading UAE-based company advising building owners on how to dramatically cut their carbon emissions and utility bills.

“Putting that into context, the savings potential for local governments using artificial grass in pubic urban landscaped areas such as road verges, traffic islands and interchanges, must run in to hundreds of millions of Dirhams. It needs 2.5 million litres of water to irrigate a 200 square metre lawn over 40 months, the same amount of water that would fill an Olympic sized swimming pool,” he added. “With a natural garden costing AED40 per square metre per annum to maintain, the cost of installing synthetic grass is paid back in less than four years. Over ten years the savings (on a 200 sqm garden) amount to approximately AED50,000,” added Oberlin.

However it is not just about saving water and saving money

Lawyer leaves hospital wishing Cheney well

Lawyer leaves hospital wishing Cheney well

0 Comments | Buffalo News, Feb 18, 2006 | by Lynn Brezosky

His face marked with tiny birdshot wounds, the lawyer shot by Vice President Cheney while quail hunting left a hospital Friday, saying “accidents do and will happen” and apologizing for the trouble caused for the vice president.

“My family and I are deeply sorry for everything Vice President Cheney and his family have had to deal with,” Harry M. Whittington said, his voice raspy but strong in his first comments since being shot six days earlier on a South Texas ranch.

The Austin attorney spoke less than 20 minutes before Cheney made his first public appearance since the shooting. Cheney received a rousing ovation from legislators in his home state of Wyoming.

“It’s a wonderful experience to be greeted by such warmth by the leaders of our great state. It’s especially true when you’ve had a very long week,” Cheney told lawmakers in Cheyenne.

“Thankfully, Harry Whittington is on the mend and doing very well.”

Whittington, 78, was hit in the face, neck and chest with birdshot last Saturday. After a shotgun pellet traveled to his heart, he suffered a mild heart attack Tuesday while being treated in Christus Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial.

Whittington, who did not answer questions after giving his brief statement, had what appeared to be a line of cuts on his upper right eyelid and scrapes on his neck.

“We all assume certain risks in what we do, in what activities we pursue,” Whittington said. “Accidents do and will happen.”

He said the past weekend involved “a cloud of misfortune and sadness that is not easy to explain, especially with those who are not familiar with the great sport of quail hunting.”

pounds 1M PAYOUT FOR 10 ABUSED KIDS

0 Comments | Sunday Mercury (Birmingham, England), July 25, 2010

Byline: ANUJI VARMA

MORE than pounds 1 million in compensation has been paid out to 10 children who were failed by social services in the Midlands.

Birmingham-based law firm Irwin Mitchell has won the huge payouts for abused and neglected youngsters – and is currently working on ONE HUNDRED other cases.

Solicitor Luke Daniels revealed the 10 claims had been settled since September last year, with one of the ‘forgotten’ children receiving more than pounds 100,000. He said: “These youngsters need therapy and other care and the payouts will cover these costs. Some also have further education needs because they have been deprived (of education).

”The money they received is invested by the courts if they are under 18 and when they are old enough, they are given the cash. The number of cases we are dealing with has increased vastly over the past five years.

”It’s not just Birmingham but there are other Midland councils that we are pursuing on behalf of our clients.” Mr Daniels would not reveal details of the children involved

Gaithersburg-based GenVec to study eye disease

Gaithersburg-based GenVec to study eye disease

Daily Record, The (Baltimore), May 22, 2008

GenVec Inc., of Gaithersburg, a biopharmaceutical company developing novel gene-based drugs and vaccines, announced that it received a two-year grant totaling approximately $546,000 from the National Eye Institute, a part of the National Institutes of Health, to explore mechanisms regulating pigment epithelium-derived factor, or PEDF, a key regulator of blood vessel growth in the eye.

Uncontrolled growth of new blood vessels is a factor in diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration, the leading causes of blindness in the Western world. GenVec said research conducted under the grant may lead to the discovery and testing of improved strategies to treat neovascular diseases of the eye.
